Newfoundland Hockey Association 1898 to 1935

On February 16, 1897 the hockey club formed the St. John's Amateur Hockey Association and had the first election of officers. By the first annual meeting in February 1898 there was a name change to the Newfoundland Hockey Association. In January 1899 the association formed the first

hockey league in Newfoundland. The St. John's Hockey League had seven hockey clubs join in its first year. A seven-team league was formed in January 1899 and regular games were scheduled at the new Prince of Wales Rink.
