Early hockey matches at the Prince's Rink had six skaters per team plus the goaltender. Up to the end of the First World War, games had two 30-minute halves and players had no changeups. One referee controlled the game and, like the Victoria Rink, only a curb separated the ice form the spectators. At the Prince's Rink pucks and even players would often land into the crowd. Two posts stuck in the ice represented the goal until 1910 however nets were installed in 1904.
