Early Hockey
The Carlton Skating Rink opened for the season on January 7, 1901. The manager was Ernest Simmonds. A hockey club was formed and evening practices were held at the rink before regular openings. A hockey team began to take shape that included G. R. Veits, Frank McRae, R. Parsons, R. Martin and A. Cameron (Source: Harbour Grace Standard January 18, 1901)

The third and final match between the Shamrocks and Victorias was played at the Carlton Rink on March 22, 1901. Shamrocks won the game 6 goals to 3. A trophy was presented by Mrs. W. H. Thompson to Shamrocks’ captain Mr. E. Simmons.

Victorias: R. T. Parsons, J. Garland, R. S. Munn, J. Duff, R. Martin, W. Brown.

Carlton Skating Rink (1885-?)
Primarily opened for general public skating, the Carlton Rink was used for the first organized hockey in Harbour Grace

Original name was Harbour Grace Recreational Centre. Also referred to as the Harbour Grace Stadium.
